behind the colors

Every pan of watercolor in our shop is handmade with love, care, and a whole lot of color knowledge. Here’s what makes our paints so special – from the sizes we offer to the way we create them.

Pan Sizes & Fill Volumes

We offer a range of pan sizes to suit every artist’s needs. Each pan is carefully hand-filled and topped to ensure you get the best value possible:

  • 1/4 Pan – 0.9 ml
  • 1/2 Pan – 1.9 ml
  • Full Pan – 3.5 ml
  • Mini Set (12 colors in one pan) – each compartment holds 1.6 ml

Our mini sets combine 12 colors into one large, divided pan – compact, travel-friendly, and just as colorful!

The Handmade Process

iconic colors are created using a multi-stage pouring process. This method is essential to reduce the chance of air bubbles forming during drying – a natural challenge in handmade paint.

To make sure you get the best experience (and more color than expected), we always top each pan slightly over the edge. This extra color is not included in the price – it's our way of balancing out any possible air pockets and giving you a little extra. In most cases, you’ll end up with more product than what you paid for.

Why Artist-Grade Watercolors Are More Expensive

You may notice that artist-grade watercolors are more costly than other paint types, such as acrylics. This is because:

  • They contain a much higher pigment concentration, which results in more vibrant colors and better performance.
  • Pigment prices vary depending on their source and rarity. Some are naturally more expensive, while others are more affordable – and this is reflected in the price of each color.

We always price our watercolors fairly and transparently, based on the true value of the materials and the craftsmanship behind each pan.

From Our Studio to Your Brush

Each pan is hand-poured, layer by layer, and individually checked for quality. You’re not just buying color – you’re supporting a craft, a process, and a piece of artistry.

Thank you for choosing handmade.
